MoNomo guide
Resigning, explained
Optional. Official. Entirely yours.
You do not have to
Plenty of people just stop going. Resigning is a choice, not a requirement for being done. Do it when it is right for you, not because the internet dared you.
The easy way
QuitMormon is free. An attorney submits your request and handles the back-and-forth, so you never have to sit in an office and explain yourself.
The DIY way
Write a short, signed letter asking for your name to be removed from church records. You do not owe an explanation. Include your full legal name, birth date, and current address so they can find your record. Keep a copy. Expect follow-up contact; you can decline any meeting.
Before you send
- Think about family timing: weddings, missions, a parent's health. Not to stop you. Just so it doesn't blindside anyone, including you.
- Expect feelings, even if you are sure. Grief and relief can show up in the same afternoon.
- If you are under 18, talk to someone you trust first.
